White Belt, Part 2: Your portfolio site
Generate a one-page portfolio site from your LinkedIn profile with Amazon Bedrock, host it on Amazon S3 and put CloudFront in front for HTTPS. You end with a live URL.
Reviewed against the AWS documentation
What you build
A one-page portfolio site: who you are, what you do, and a Projects section that each later belt adds a card to. Amazon Bedrock writes the first version from your LinkedIn profile; you edit it; Amazon S3 stores it; Amazon CloudFront serves it over HTTPS from locations near your visitors.
You need the account from part 1, signed in as your admin user.
Get your profile out of LinkedIn
- 1
Export your profile as PDF
On your LinkedIn profile page, choose More (or Resources), then Save to PDF. LinkedIn does not allow tools to fetch profile pages, so the PDF is the honest way. No LinkedIn? Paste your CV text instead; the next steps work the same way.
- 2
Decide what goes public
The site is public. Remove your phone number, street address and anything you would not put on a billboard. Keep: name, headline, a short bio, skills, the roles you want to show, and links to GitHub or LinkedIn.
Generate the page with Amazon Bedrock
- 3
Pick a model
Open the Amazon Bedrock console in a region where it is available, such as US East (N. Virginia), and choose Model catalog. Access to most models is enabled by default, so pick Amazon Nova Lite (cheap and good at this) and choose Open in playground. No request or waiting is needed for Amazon models.
Third-party models start an AWS Marketplace subscription on first use, which needs a payment method on the account, and Anthropic models ask for a one-time use case form. Stay with Nova for this belt.
- 4
Open the playground and attach your profile
In Bedrock choose Playgrounds, then Chat. Select the model you picked. Attach the PDF with the attachment control, or paste the text into the message.
If the attachment control is missing for your model, paste the text. The result is the same.
- 5
Ask for a complete, single-file page
Prompt: "Using the attached profile, write a complete one-page portfolio website as a single HTML file with the CSS inline. Sections: name and headline, short bio, skills, experience, a Projects section with one placeholder card titled White Belt: this site, and links. Modern, clean, mobile friendly, no external files, no JavaScript." Copy the answer into a file named index.html.
- 6
Review and edit
Open index.html in your browser. Fix anything invented or wrong; models make things up. Change wording until it sounds like you. This file is yours; the model only wrote the first draft.
Host it on Amazon S3
- 7
Create a bucket
Open the S3 console and choose Create bucket. Give it a globally unique name, such as yourname-portfolio, in the same region you plan to use. Leave Block Public Access on; CloudFront will read the bucket privately.
- 8
Upload index.html
Open the bucket, choose Upload, add index.html and upload. If the page uses images, upload them to the same bucket with the same relative paths.
Serve it over HTTPS with CloudFront
- 9
Create a distribution
Open the CloudFront console and choose Create distribution. For the origin, pick your S3 bucket. When offered, let CloudFront create an origin access control and update the bucket policy, so only CloudFront can read the bucket. Set the default root object to index.html. Leave the certificate as the default CloudFront certificate.
- 10
Wait, then open your site
Deployment takes a few minutes. The distribution shows a domain name ending in cloudfront.net. Open it over https and your page is live. This is the URL you submit at the end of the belt.
Optional: a custom domain needs a certificate from AWS Certificate Manager in US East (N. Virginia) and a DNS record. Not required for the belt.
- 11
Publish a change
Edit index.html, upload it again to S3, then in CloudFront choose Invalidations and create one for /*. Your change appears within a minute. Do this once so you know how updates work.
Finish the belt
- 12
Check the bill
Open Billing. You should see Bedrock usage of a few cents at most and nothing else. If something unexpected appears, find and delete it now.
- 13
Keep the code
Put index.html in a public GitHub repository. Future belts build on it, and the repository is part of what you can show.
- 14
Take the belt exam and submit your site
Back on the White Belt page, take the 15-question exam, then submit your live URL. You get the white belt badge right away. The site costs nothing to keep while your Free plan lasts. If you want to keep it and the account after the plan ends, upgrade to the Paid plan before then.
